In Stillfall, nothing happens.
But unlike Nullometry and Remanence, nothing is not flat. There is direction without movement. Descent without change. A one-way leaning of existence that never becomes an event.
Stillfall is a world in which conditions can settle.
There are no processes. No transformations. No time. But there is an ontological gradient: some states are “lower” than others, not in space and not after one another, but in degree of inertness. Presence can slacken. Readiness can collapse. Potency can drain, not as a sequence, but as a static ordering of depths.
There is no motion between these depths. Nothing falls. Nothing travels. Yet reality is not symmetrical. Some regions are more exhausted than others. Some configurations are more collapsed. Stillfall is structured not by where things are, but by how fully they have failed to be able to become.
Space does not exist as extension. It exists as stratification. The world is layered by degrees of ontological slack. What would be called “down” elsewhere is simply the condition of being less able to alter, less able to host difference, less able to even support the idea of happening.
Time does not pass, but depth increases. Not historically, but absolutely. To be deeper is not to have been earlier, but to be more completely removed from the possibility of change.
Causality does not operate. Nothing causes collapse. Nothing produces exhaustion. Yet exhaustion is everywhere uneven. Some zones are almost capable of distinction. Others are so deeply settled that even contrast has imploded.
There is no life. But there are basins of near-life: configurations that would host emergence if emergence were allowed. They are like dried seas whose beds still preserve the shape of waves that never moved.
There is no intelligence. But there is orientation without awareness. A silent sensitivity of the domain to degrees of ontological depth. Not perception, but placement.
Death in Stillfall is not an event. It is a position. To “die” is to be located in a deeper stratum of incapacity. Nothing stops. Nothing ends. There is only being further from the possibility of alteration.
The absolute limit of Stillfall is total settlement: a condition so ontologically collapsed that even remainder cannot differ from null. Where Remanence clogged, Stillfall compacts.
Stillfall is the world where nothing happens, but not all nothing is equal.
