In Remanence, nothing happens.
But unlike Nullometry, not everything cancels.
There are no events, no processes, no transitions. Nothing unfolds. Nothing develops. Nothing transforms. Yet when something is somehow present, it cannot entirely disappear. The defining feature of Remanence is not activity, but residue. Whatever is, leaves something behind, even though there is no mechanism by which it came to be.
There is still no time. There is no sequence, no before or after. But there is asymmetry. Not between moments, but between presence and absence. Presence is never clean. Absence is never complete. Every attempt at nothing leaves a remainder that cannot be removed.
Space does not exist as extension. But it exists as non-erasability gradients. Some regions, if the term can be forced, hold more remainder than others. Not because anything moved there, but because cancellation does not fully succeed. Nearness is not distance but similarity of leftover. Far is not far away, but differently unerasable.
Causality still does not operate. Nothing produces anything else. Yet elimination fails. Influence appears not as action, but as persistence. What is present cannot help but continue to bias the domain simply by failing to vanish.
Remanence is the world where zero is unstable.
There is no life, but there are husks of life that never lived. There are no organisms, but there are concentrations of residue that behave like corpses of processes that never occurred. Not dead things, but non-erasable imprints of an impossible activity.
There is no intelligence, but there is memory without experience. Not recollection, but the inability of the domain to return to blankness. Every “state” leaves a stain, even though no state was entered.
Death does not exist here. But neither does disappearance. The closest equivalent to death is saturation: the point at which remainder becomes so dense that no further cancellation is even imaginable.
The absolute limit of Remanence is clogging. A reality that cannot clear. A world that cannot reset. A domain where non-events pile up as ontological noise, thickening the background until distinction itself suffocates.
If Nullometry is zero without residue, Remanence is zero that will not close.
It is the first fracture in nothing.
