In Afterzero, nothing happens.
But nothing is alone.
There are no events. No processes. No transformations. Yet presence is no longer singular. Whatever exists, exists alongside. Not beside. Not after. Not interacting. Simply alongside as an ontological fact.
Afterzero is the first world where multiplicity exists without activity.
There is no space as extension. But there is adjacency without distance. Configurations are not located, but they are not solitary. They do not touch. They do not separate. They do not influence. They coexist as irreducible plurality.
Time does not exist. Yet simultaneity does. Not moments at once, but existences without sequence. The world is not one remainder, one depth, one echo, one lag. It is a set of presences that cannot collapse into unity, yet cannot enter into relation.
Causality does not operate. Nothing affects anything else. But nothing can be ontologically alone. Every configuration arrives already accompanied, though by nothing in particular.
There is no life. But there is the precondition of ecology: the fact of more-than-one. Zones where coexistence thickens, where plural presences crowd without interaction, foreshadowing the possibility of constraint.
There is no intelligence. But there is plurality without observer. Not perception, but the unavoidable fact that being is no longer singular.
Death in Afterzero is not loss. It is isolation. To “die” is to approach singularity, to lose co-presence, to thin toward Nullometry.
The absolute limit of Afterzero is irreducible multiplicity without structure: a world that cannot collapse to one, but cannot yet form two.
Afterzero is the hinge.
It is the last zero-world.
It is the point at which a world can no longer remain without engines.
